From a light, almost pink colored violet to a very deep purple, amethyst is one of the most recognizable gemstones in the birthday calendar year. On top of having a wide tonal range, royal purple amethyst comes in a variety of sizes and shapes. The affordable gemstone was once about as expensive as a ruby until a discovery in Brazil led to an influx of amethyst. (Lucky us!)

According to folklore, amethyst is said to keep its wearer clear-headed and quick-witted. The word amethyst comes from the Greek word “amethystos,” which means sober or “not drunk.” It has been said that wearing amethyst keeps you clear-minded and steady. Besides its steadfast dedication to clear-mindedness, amethyst was one of the emblems of the twelve apostles. Amethyst has long been a gemstone associated with royalty and religion, often seen on the fingers of bishops and British royalty.

At Ben Bridge, we cherish the beautiful gemstone of amethyst. Whether set alongside other gemstones and diamonds in a pendant or standing alone in a bezel set ring, amethyst is always beautiful. Representing the month of February, we welcome the gorgeous purple stone into our lives each year!
