I love watches and have quite a few. I guess you could say I inherited my love for watches. My grandfather, Sam Silverman, was a watchmaker who came to Seattle in 1912 and opened a small shop servicing pocket watches.

I was born in Seattle in 1931, the third generation of a jewelry family. My father, Ben Bridge, ran a small jewelry store in downtown Seattle that he took over from Sam, his father-in-law. Over the six decades I spent in the jewelry business, I came across some remarkable pieces and managed to collect quite a few.

I particularly love watches with exotic stone dials. For many years, I was the guardian of a Rolex President in solid yellow gold with a fabulous jade dial. That was a handsome watch!

About 20 years ago, I fell in love with a Rolex Cellini. It is very thin with a solid gold case [and] tailored gold band, and is set with diamonds all around the dial. It is beautiful. Rolex made the watch for me with a striking blue lapis lazuli dial. I think it is one of a kind!

My beautiful lapis Rolex has been with me to all the grand occasions I’ve celebrated in my life: my wife’s milestone birthday, our 65th wedding anniversary, the weddings of my grandsons Rami and Marc, and it will be with me at my granddaughter Lisa’s wedding this fall. It has accompanied me on business trips to New York, leisure cruises around the world, and trips to Disneyland with the whole family. Everywhere its been, it has been much admired.

Most importantly, I admire it every day I put it on. This watch has brought me a lifetime of pleasure.
