My Cartier Panthère is the timepiece that has won over my heart and has also probably experienced the most special moments with me. I bought it for myself about a year after I opened our Ben Bridge Topanga store in Southern California. I have to admit it was a huge splurge for me at 23-years-old, but I fell in love with it. I made myself a deal that when my store hit $1 million in business, I’d reward myself with it. So it is a kind of trophy for me still.
Cartier makes timepieces that are classic and timeless. I’ve always loved my timepiece’s bracelet and the deployment buckle. This watch is a piece of comfortable jewelry that I can wear with a T-shirt and jeans or with a more formal look. It is both easy to wear and looks just as current as when we got it — especially now that Cartier has decided to reintroduce the line. (I’m such a trendsetter.)
My husband, John, proposed to me at a beach in Malibu, and I was hit by a huge wave moments later. I was wearing my Panthère, and I really hadn’t owned it for very long, so I was still treating it like the new treasure that it was to me. So when I got soaked, I wasn’t worried about anything else getting washed away or anything — I just wanted to get to dry land to take care of my watch.
Don’t worry! My ring was still on my finger!
I was looking through some pictures the other day and noticed my watch was right there, in the background, but right along with me at really important moments in my life. But even better, it’s been with me in my day-to-day. My watch was there at our rehearsal dinner, both of my daughters’ baptisms, as an accent to some of my best Halloween costumes, and riding on my wrist just playing Frisbee with my precious three-legged dog, Takka.
Even though the trend in the past few years has been for larger watches on women, I still break it out. When I look at my Cartier, I still feel the pride and excitement I had the day I bought it. It’s good to celebrate when you achieve a challenging goal!
