In the past few years, smartwatches have taken off. Every brand, including some of our favorite watch groups, are getting into the smart game. We get it. We are used to having the world in the palm of our hands these days — why not put on our wrists too? Smartwatches do everything from let you access your text messages and emails to counting your steps. (They tell time too!) Though they are called smartwatches, smartwatches are more like miniature computers located on your wrist. Similar to a toned down version of your iPhone or other smart device, there is a lot of benefit to a smartwatch. A smartwatch is a great investment for you if you are into the latest technology and are not satisfied with the gadgets you currently own. Smartwatches are a really fun and innovative tool to have on your belt.

But nothing ever beats tradition.

A traditional watch gives you the time down to the second, as well as the date. Depending on the style, you also might be able to check out everything from the moonphase to what direction you are heading. It’s rough comparing a smartwatch to a traditional watch. It’s almost not fair to do so.

Besides telling the time, the two don’t have much in common. The perks of a traditional watch include never having to charge it (a smartwatch will run out of battery like your phone), never having to worry about it becoming outdated, and its inevitable sentimental value. Though smartwatches have so many cool features, it is hard to imagine passing your smartwatch down to the next couple of generations of your family. Technology changes quickly.

A fine watch never goes out of style.

We do love smartwatches too, though! Some of our favorite watch brands have jumped into the “smartwatch” game. At Baselworld this year, Assistant Watch Buyer Melissa Swesey had the chance to check out TAG Heuer‘s newest Connected watch.

“TAG Heuer’s innovative work with tech companies like Google and Intel gave birth to the second version of its connected watch in Basel. The TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 is perfect for anyone looking to have a customizable smartwatch. The modularity allows the purchaser to choose exactly how they want their watch to look.”

TAG Heuer’s Connected watch, powered by Android and engineered in collaboration with Intel, is the perfect blend for smartwatch and traditional watch lovers. Though there’s certainly nothing wrong with owning a TAG Heuer and and Apple Watch, it’s good to know that there is a happy in between as well. The TAG Connected watch has features like weather, GPS, Google, a calendar, and the ability to access your text messages.

It is exciting to see how things change in the watch world as technology becomes more and more advance. Though we love a traditional watch, we are always ready to see what watch brands will come up with next!
