Getting engaged is easily one of the most exciting moments in a person’s life. Regardless of the time of the year, there are so many aspects that go into the decision to a) get engaged b) find a ring c) propose! There is a reason so many people get engaged during the holiday season, though. *About 40% of engagements occur during the holiday season, or in the span of time between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.
Your proposal will be special no matter what time of year you choose, but for a holiday engagement, that extra special time of year, we have a few suggestions.
- Involve family and friends
This is, of course, a personal choice, but the holidays are all about spending time with the people you love—family, friends, and the people who make your life that much better. A holiday proposal will be memorable regardless, but if you and your partner are close to your family or friends, consider involving them, even in a small way. If you would prefer your proposal to be intimate (just the two of you), a great way to incorporate your family is to have them all gathered, waiting to greet you and your new fiancée right afterward! Tis the season for love in all forms.
- Present the ring
Presenting the ring is a huge part of a proposal. During the holiday season, there are plenty of adorable ideas on how to present your ring. Christmas trees, extra cute jewelry boxes and bows (and bears!), Christmas cookies, sparkling lights, Santa Claus himself! Everything from hanging a ring from an ornament on your Christmas tree to spelling out “will you marry me” in the snow, the holidays provide endless ideas to create a beautiful memory that will last forever.
- Get a great picture
Of course you will want a picture of the actual moment—or as soon after the moment as possible—but during the holiday season, there are incredible photo opportunities. Dimly lit restaurants, ice skating rinks, Christmas lights, frosty trees, letters in the snow – there are so many beautiful holiday settings to use to your advantage. If you get a picture in the moment, or simply find the best photo opportunity after you are officially engaged, be sure to use the season! It will add even more magic to your love story.
