We got off the plane from the long voyage, dropped our bags at the hotel and hit the ground running to see as much as we could. On our first day in Peru we toured Lima, Peru’s capital and a vibrant, modern city. The beautiful cliff side views, fresh seafood, and cathedrals were some of the highlights of our exploration.
While we couldn’t take pictures inside some areas of the cathedrals, one pattern in the ceiling remains clearly in my mind’s eye. As soon as we returned to our hotel room I sketched the shapes. There was something simultaneously geometric and floral at the same time in the repeating diamond shapes.
At another stop on our trip I purchased vibrant paints from a market. The paints were naturally dyed with local ingredients. What color should this shape take? Without a brush the paints got a bit messy, my friend and travel companion, Lauren, still reminds me about how I turned the bottom of her feet green in the process! Casualties of a creative process!
Vibrant peridot was selected for the new designs to capture the fresh colors of the Peruvian countryside. We created a few versions of this pendant and earring combo before finding just the right weight and look. I wanted the earring to have a quality heft but not to be too heavy to wear all day or night. These pieces are meant to be worn and enjoyed after all!
I hope these pieces head off on new and wonderful adventures!
