These two pieces were inspired by the windows in Inca ruins.
The stone buildings are built solidly out of large stones and were made without any mortar, so the pieces have to fit together perfectly. The Incas understood that it was a tectonically active area, so the buildings were built to withstand earthquakes and the test of time. Each wall actually bows in just a hair to add to its solid design.
To maintain the strength of the walls, each window could have weakened the design. Instead, each window was shaped like a trapezoid (subtly smaller at the top and wider at the bottom). They continued to promote the building’s strength even in this portion of design.
In creating these pieces, I played with the repetition of these windows to create a wearable pattern. I love the almost sculptural quality of these pieces as they have dimensions at play. We are introducing a hinged bangle and a ring that can become exciting staples in a woman’s wardrobe.
